Pattern, texture and balance were key concepts for this series of JoyEful Party Animals Masai giraffes.  They have maple leaf like spots. Did you know they don’t have front top teeth?  The model giraffe enjoyed their approved zoo treats.  I enjoyed the ice cream and doughnuts!

I used this canvas shape to emphasize the tall, big-hearted  Masai Giraffe. Males can grow to 18’.  Their hearts weigh up to 25 pounds. A group is called a tower.  I couldn’t resist painting a tower of macaroons, ice cream and confetti to portray this JoyEful Party Animal.

A 20” tongue is perfect for eating a tall ice cream cone balancing on a tower of doughnuts!  Sweet balance is the message for this painting.  The research on this painting involved feeding the giraffes their approved zoo treats.  I enjoyed eating my props, the ice cream cone and doughnuts!

JoyEful Courage symbolizes my adventure preparing for this exhibit.  Courage to rent studio space to accommodate the large paintings and work uninterrupted.  I loved painting his expressive tongue out concentration and free hair blown mane.  Lion, walk digitate - on their toes.  No tiptoeing around this adventure - I jumped “All In” !

I was “Tickled Pink” by the flamingo’s pink feathers, black tipped bill and golden eyes while photographing  these flamingos. It is funny to think they start out as white and grey fluff balls with straight bills.  The bubbles repeat all of the colors I used painting the flamingo feathers.

This painting of my zoo series kept me smiling  while on my easel.   I kept it within eyesight in my studio while I worked on the other paintings.   It reminded me laugh, enjoy opportunities and not to take life so serious.  I also loved eating my cupcake props.

One of my favorite legends is the story of the good and bad wolves.  We have the choice of which one we feed.  It is a good reminder for me when I’m in “art hermit mode” spending time alone with my thoughts.

My Dutch name DeGoede translates to “the good”

“Sweet Tweets” visual and symbolic message is balance and contrast.  Solutions come in many sizes and colors; not only black and white.

The name Grevy's zebra was coined in 1882.  Menelik II, Emperor of Abyssinia (now Ethiopia) presented a Grey Zebra as a gift to the President of France, Jules Grévy.

Cougar Cat Nap.  Those blue eyes.  I just had to paint those beautiful blue eyes, spotted fur and facial expressions.  The baby cougars have blue eyes and spots until about five months.  The only butterflies that compare to those eyes are the Blue Morpho Butterflies.

Do you have any idea how many wrinkles are on an Asian elephant?!  My composition uses touching, interlocking trunks to portray the loving, fierce family unity in raising a baby and protecting the group. The females in a herd are called “Aunties”.

The bubbles represent the colorful memories being created.

A new JoyEful Party Animals debut!  This painting is in the Phoenix Zoo  3 artist exhibit - Art on the Wild Side.  Opens 2/1/2020 - 5-31-2020

Not a copy cat. Every Sumatran Tiger has a unique stripe pattern. I loved painting the detail in the unique striped fur, color in their eyes and oh those whiskers!  The Sumatran Tiger a “fingerprint stripe pattern” and five sets of whiskers which help them navigate in the dark.
