Meet Night Owl Archimedes © the newest JoyEful Party Animals® just off my easel. This one took a looooong time to paint. Whooooo knew owls have so many patterns on their feathers! Then “some” brilliant artist thought it was a grand idea to paint every star! I got involved in the background making sure the background didn’t overpower the owl. Lots of late nights readjusting the starry night. Just when I thought I was in the home stretch, I found a really cool fence post on my daily hike. I decide it is “a must” for this JoyEful Party Animal®. The challenge of playing with the lighting and making sure it complimented the composition was fun, but pushed me to an early happy hour or two.
My model is one of the ambassador animals at the Phoenix Zoo. He is an Eurasian Eagle Owl. His name is “Archie” short for Archimedes. He was hatched in June 2005 at the World Bird Sanctuary located near St. Louis. The Phoenix Zoo acquired Archie in 2009 as an ambassador animal. I met Archie at the Art on the Wild Side Exhibit at the Phoenix Zoo.
I am excited the Art on the Wild Side 3 Artist Exhibit has been extended through January 2021! I can’t wait for the Phoenix Zoo to open to the public again!
Whooooo will adopt this wise JoyEful Party Animals® to their habitat? You can see how to have him “perch” in your home on my website Joyesart.com
A portion of the proceeds of this painting will go to help the Phoenix Zoo.
